Honeycomb Journey
ミニマルだけどモード──2024年秋にデビューした「Honeycomb（ハニカム）」シリーズ。幾何学的なフォルムと洗練されたデザインが特徴のコレクションです。今回は、その誕生ストーリーやデザインの背景をご紹介します。
私は美大でファッションデザインを学ぶなかで、布を固い素材に変化させるなど、概念にとらわれない造形を追求していました。在学中、「ブラックリトルドレス」の課題制作をきっかけに、尾川宏さんの著書『紙のフォルム』と出会い、紙立体の美しさに魅了されます。さらに、「宇宙の建築家」とも称される三浦公亮先生が考案した“ミウラ折り”にも着目。この“ミウラ折り”の技術は、代々木上原店オープン時のカタログ制作にも取り入れました。同じ頃、ハニカムペーパーにも出会い、その構造の美しさと機能性に引き込まれていきました。
私は、美しい造形の最高峰は自然物にあると考えています。例えば、木の枝や葉は光合成や成長のために最適な方向へと伸び、無駄が一切ありません。この“理にかなった美しさ”を追い求める考えを、ジュエリーのデザインにも反映させています。ハニカムシリーズにおいても、ハニカムペーパーの連続性をそのままジュエリーに落とし込むのではなく、最大限までシンプルにそぎ落とし、どの角度から見ても洗練されたデザインに仕上げました。
ハニカムシリーズは、シンプルながらも視線を引くモードなデザインが特徴。幾何学的なフォルムが洗練された雰囲気を演出し、カジュアルからフォーマルまで幅広いコーディネートにマッチします。例えば、シンプルな白シャツやニットに合わせれば、さりげなく洗練された印象に。オフィススタイルにもなじむので、デイリーに活躍してくれる万能ジュエリーです。

Minimal Yet Mode – The Story Behind the "Honeycomb" Series
Debuting in the fall of 2024, the Honeycomb series by Japanese jewelry brand CHIKAKO YAJIMA is a collection defined by its geometric forms and refined design. In this article, I’d like to share the story behind its creation and the inspiration that shaped its design.
During my time at art school studying fashion design, I was deeply interested in exploring unconventional forms—transforming soft fabrics into rigid materials and breaking free from traditional concepts. While working on a "Black Little Dress" project, I discovered Hiroshi Ogawa’s book, The Form of Paper, and became captivated by the beauty of paper structures. Around the same time, I also encountered "Miura Folding," a technique developed by Koryo Miura, a scientist known as the "Architect of Space." This folding method, designed for space structures, fascinated me, and I later incorporated it into the catalog design for my Yoyogi-Uehara store.
It was also during this period that I encountered honeycomb paper. I was drawn to its structural beauty and functionality, which deepened my appreciation for intricate, yet efficient, forms.
I have always believed that the pinnacle of beauty lies in nature. Take, for example, the way tree branches and leaves grow—they extend in precisely the right directions for optimal photosynthesis and growth, without an inch of waste. This "functional beauty" is something I strive to embody in my jewelry designs.
For the Honeycomb series, rather than simply replicating the repeating structure of honeycomb paper, I refined the form to its essence—stripping it down to its most minimal yet sophisticated expression. The result is a collection that is visually striking yet seamlessly integrates into daily life.
With its geometric elegance, the Honeycomb series elevates any outfit, from casual to formal. Pair it with a simple white shirt or knitwear for an effortlessly polished look, or incorporate it into office attire for a refined touch. Its versatility makes it an ideal daily jewelry piece.
